6:29 PM So I was at Topshop this afternoon. Found and tried. And so I decided to purchase. Here comes the smiles. How could I ever resist a cute guy who smiled at me cheekily and wished me "Selamat Hari Raya"? I was in a rush. I would have replied if I wasn't pressing for time. But I did smile at you. You made me smile. You made my day. Thank you for that. Then there was another. You caught my eye the moment I entered. Definitely on the good-looking end. Still that made my day. I'm off. My mom needs my help in the kitchen.
6:34 AM I was looking at photos of Chad Michael Murray and Sophia Bush back in the days when they were still happily together. (This is my favorite pic of them.) I love Chad Michael Murray. I love Sophia Bush. They look so good together. But still it didn't stop them from getting divorced after only 5 months of marriage. Looking good together doesn't guarantee forever. Nothing lasts forever. Sometimes it's sad to see how the world works. Then I came across photos of Hilary Duff (and yes I prefer her to Lindsay Lohan) and Joel Madden. Finally, one of the cutest couple. The smile one puts on another is simply amazing. Friday, October 20, 2006
11:38 AM So I'm keeping my promise. (yes i know it's long overdue) Of updating on my trip in the next entry. Hmmm, how shall I start?? Firstly, a 14hrs flight to Finland is not a laughing matter. I burned my ass. Literally but not literally. To make things worse, I couldn't keep my eyes shut for at least a decent hour. So yeah, I had 15mins of sleep every other hour. It sucks. Anyway, upon arrival at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport in Finland (not forgetting a 4hr transit over at Amsterdam Airport) the first difference would be noticed in its weather (other than the people that is). Our hotel was located in a town, Hyvinkaa. The place might seem a lil' small, but the people there has the biggest heart. Oh! And that first night I was knocked out after having dinner. The next few days in Finland was spent exploring the main town Helsinki. Shopping there is great!! I love every single item I saw. But with a double exchange rate, I kinda controlled myself. And I got to say, the buildings there are B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L!! I love how they look so old yet so modern and new. We visited a small off shore island, Suomenlinna. Trust me if you go there yourself, you too would fall in love with the place. The little treasures you find keeps the place so magical. I felt so peaceful with myself while I was there. But I got to say, it was bloody cold there. To a point when clouds was passing through me and I couldn't walk straight because of the strong wind. But really, who cares about the weather when I'm in one of the most beautiful islands. Smaller, cheaper and lighter shopping can be found at the open market. A must-go when you visit Finland! They have plenty of interesting and unique items that can never be found in Singapore. Also!!! I got to say this!! They have nice crepes there!! *oh yes i know. kill me for wanting to say that.* We had wanted to visit Helsinki Zoo, but took a wrong step of exploring an open-air museum and ended up with not much time to visit the zoo. Not that it was boring or anything, but I'm pretty sure the zoo would have been more exciting. Well, I'm thinking of returning to visit Finland in the far future. So I'm keeping that in my agenda for now. =) After a 4days 3 nights stay over in Finland, it was time to head down ( or is it up??) to Amsterdam. I definitely felt a lil' low on the day we were leaving Finland, but I told myself that I was about to explore a whole new different place and that the experience was more than I could ask for. Blame it on the time we arrived in Amsterdam!! (it was late afternoon) We couldn't do much except explore downtown Amsterdam with their night lights. Night life is definitely a lil' more exciting there. But there was something that took me by surprise. I'm not gonna mention it as it might rub some people in the wrong way. Well, it just wasn't in my vision and expectations. Anyway, the following day was spent on a tour to the country side. It sounded a lil' boring to me in the beginning (fyi, i kind of hate tours), but I got to say this is one of the most enjoyable tours I've ever been to. We first visited a cheese farm. The selection of cheese was simply magnificent but my favorite has got to be the herbs cheese. I even bought back one home. We then proceeded to a place called Volendams. I love that place!! Bargain shopping & delicious food!! (especially the fish; it's so fresh) But sadly we couldn't do much shopping cause we had to leave on a boat to go to a small island they call Fish Island (i think). Here comes the boring part. There was nothing much there except houses, houses and more houses with a history that people there only eat fish. (i wonder how true is that) Anyway, we then left for a place where clogs are made and windmills are a beauty. They have such gorgeous clogs there! But buying one back for myself would be impractical because I would never wear it here. And for the windmills, well, i haven't seen one up close so maybe that's why I find them a beauty. That kind of completed the tour. A pity we didn't visit a chocolate farm (my aunt said we would), but it's ok. Maybe on my next visit. The next day, we made BIG plans. Remember how I told you we fell in love with Volendams but did not have enough time there?? Well, we made time for that! We ventured out early in the morning to find out how we could get there by public transport. But an event that had to be held that day caused us to arrive at Volendams only 3hours later. No regrets whatsoever though! We were ready to shop our ass off! We were there for almost half a day. But the tiredness was worth it because we were happy people at the end of the day. I got to mention this!! There are gorgeous houses in the country side. (and i do mean GORGEOUS) And I got to mention this too!! I saw one particular cute guy that caught my attention!! But seeing him again would be almost impossible. Alright enough. We then headed back to downtown Amsterdam and continued to explore the night life. Without notice, we entered into the RED LIGHT DISTRICT. (which we have been looking for about 2days) Oh man, I can't describe how it felt being there. You got to experience it for yourself. Definitely one of the best and most interesting RED LIGHT DISTRICTS I've been to. Before heading back to the hotel, we stopped by Hard Rock Cafe to get some souveniors. The next day was the day we were leaving for Singapore. However, we took advantage of the time we had and went for more shopping. This time a little more expensive. I even got myself a S$150 jacket. So when it was time to leave, I left we a heavy heart. This has certainly been one the most enjoyable holidays I've gone on. The flight back was no difference from the one that I came on. Sore ass. And definitely sleep deprived. I've ended my summary of the trip. But I'm gonna do an evaluation. Having experience Finland & Amsterdam first hand, there are certain things I wish Singaporeans would follow by example. Firstly, could we be a little softer and more polite? You need not talk loudly as if the world owes you something. Others would appreciate it alot more. Next, can I see more husbands bringing babies out for walks in the park instead of just the wives? I see so many in both Finland & Amsterdam. I wish my future husband would do so. Thirdly, can we be a little less judgemental of what others wear? I see people who are a little dressed-down. I see people who are very dressed-up. And I see people who don't give a damn. But none of them seem to care. It's all in the mood. You don't rule the world people. Lastly, I want trams in Singapore. But I know it would never happen. So I'll just wait for my next trip to Europe. To conclude, I personally prefer Finland to Amsterdam. The people, culture and lifestyle is simply amazing. But I wouldn't mind staying in the country side of Amsterdam but still be able to shop in downtown Amsterdam. So take your pick people. You'll love both I'm sure. Alright. I'm finish. Be gone.
